How do we test the casters?

2026-03-19

  1. Load Capacity Test (Static & Dynamic)

Test Content

Static Load Test: Apply 1.2–1.5 times the rated load to the caster for a set duration (1–24 hours) and check for permanent deformation or cracking.

Dynamic Load Test: Run the loaded caster on a standardized test track at a fixed speed for a targeted distance to simulate real‑world moving conditions.

Test Purpose

Verify the caster’s rated load capacity; Prevent structural failure under stationary or moving weight.

  1. Swivel Function Test

Test Content

Mount the caster under standard load and perform repeated 360° swivel cycles (typically 10,000+ cycles). Measure swivel torque before and after cycling to detect binding or wear.

Test Purpose

Ensure smooth, consistent steering performance; Confirm long‑term durability of the swivel bearing assembly.

  1. Wear Resistance Test

Test Content

Test the wheel tread on an abrasive surface (concrete, steel plate) for a set distance. Measure tread thickness reduction, diameter change, and surface damage.

Test Purpose

Evaluate the wear life of PU, PP, PVC, or rubber wheels; Compare material durability for different application environments.

  1. Impact Resistance Test

Test Content

Conduct drop impact tests using weighted weights from a specified height. Simulate obstacle impact by running the caster over a raised block at controlled speed.

Test Purpose

Validate structural strength against shocks and rough handling; Avoid sudden failure during transportation or daily use.

  1. Brake Performance Test

Test Content

Measure the horizontal holding force under rated load when the brake is engaged. Conduct brake on/off cycle tests to check for fatigue, slippage, or malfunction.

Test Purpose

Ensure reliable braking on flat surfaces and inclines; Confirm brake mechanism stability after repeated operation.

  1. Stem Pull-Out Test (Friction & Threaded Stem)

Test Content

For friction stem casters: measure the minimum force required to pull the stem from its socket. For threaded stem casters: test tensile strength until thread failure or bracket damage.

Test Purpose

Ensure the stem remains securely attached under stress; Validate installation stability for chair casters, trolley casters, and equipment legs.

  1. Temperature Resistance Test

Test Content

Place casters in a climate chamber for 24–48 hours under high or low temperatures. Test swivel performance, load capacity, and material flexibility after exposure.

Test Purpose

Ensure stable performance in cold storage, high-temperature workshops, or outdoor environments; Identify material brittleness, softening, or degradation.

  1. Corrosion Resistance Test (Salt Spray Test)

Test Content

Conduct salt spray testing per ASTM B117 for 24–100+ hours. Inspect brackets and hardware for rust, oxidation, or coating failure.

Test Purpose

Evaluate the quality of plating, painting, or stainless steel materials; Extend service life in humid, coastal, or corrosive environments.

Conclusion

Comprehensive caster testing is the foundation of reliable mobility solutions. In Promove lab, we have full set of test machines and test requirements to ensure our quality. Feel free to visit us!
